Body length variability bas been studied in fish schools and eohorts of two tropical pelagie species. The data, and simulations associated with them allow the variations in standard deviation of cohorts to be followed, and hypotheses on spawning duration or population structure ean thus be tested. As the fish grow, the variability increases more rapidly in young eohorts than in schools with the same mean length. For older fish, the inverse phenomenon is observed: while the standard deviation of individual lengths deereases in a cohort as it gets older, this parameter continued to inerease in sehools as the mean length increases. This shows that schools of young fish eannot be eonsidered as representative of the cohort length frequency distribution, whereas... |

The chaenopsine blennies are an homogeneous group which may be considered a subfamily of the Clinidae, since the existing evidence is not enough to give them familial status. The subfamily includes eight genera: Mccoskerichthys, Coralliozetus, Acanthemblemaria, Ekemblemaria, Emblemaria, Hemiemblemaria, Lucayablennius, and Chaenopsis. The nominal genera Protemblemaria and Emblemariopsis are herewith considered synonyms of Coralliozetus, since they share two derived characters: small size and sexual dimorphism in the color of the head, and are rather similar in several other characteristics. The división of the West Indian Zoogeographical Province made by Briggs (1974) is unnatural, since the fish fauna of Belize, Florida and the Bahamas is very similar. I... |

A concise survey is presented of the species of the crab genus Cycloes De Haan, 1837 (Brachyura: Calappidae). Notes are presented on the associated ocurrence, on shallow sandy bottoms in the Canary Islands (Lanzarote, Gran Canaria), of the eastern Atlantic Cycloes cristata (Brullé, 1837) and the fishes Bothus podus (De la Roche, 1809) (Bothidae), Trachinus draco L., 1758 and T. cf. araneus Cuvier, 1829 (Trachinidae). |
